Work on real-world energy trading problems
We are regularly looking for ambitious final-year Master’s students to join KYOS Energy Consulting for an internship or placement in quantitative modeling for energy markets. You will work at the intersection of finance, data science, and the energy transition, focusing on electricity and gas markets.
Energy markets are highly dynamic and volatile. Prices respond to weather conditions, renewable generation, geopolitical developments, and global commodity markets. In this environment, advanced quantitative models are essential. Our software helps energy companies make better trading, investment, and risk management decisions in markets where margins are tight and complexity is high.
KYOS Energy Consulting develops leading analytical software used by major energy companies, industrial players, and trading houses across Europe, the US, and Japan. While we are a specialized and mid-sized firm, we are recognized as a market leader in applying advanced quantitative methods to energy markets.
Your role as intern
At the start of your internship, we will define a clear and well-scoped project together, aligned with both your interests and our business needs. You will typically work between 2.5 and 5 days per week.
Projects may include topics such as short-term price forecasting, optimal bidding strategies for power plants, battery (BESS) optimization, medium- and long-term scenario analysis, time-series modeling of demand and renewable generation, or hedging and risk management strategies.
You will work closely with our international team of quantitative experts. This includes developing and improving models, analyzing real market data, and testing results empirically. You will not only use existing tools, but also contribute to building new ones.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply your mathematical and programming skills in a real-world setting and gain deep insight into energy trading and market dynamics.
Your profile
You are in the final phase of a Master’s degree in Econometrics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, or a related field. You are available for at least three months, 2.5 to 5 days per week.
You have a strong interest in energy markets and quantitative modeling, combined with solid programming skills in Python. You are analytical, pragmatic, and solution-oriented, and you enjoy tackling complex problems.
What we offer
We offer a dynamic and entrepreneurial working environment in a highly international team of experienced quants. You will gain hands-on experience with real trading and risk management problems and work on projects that have direct business impact.
There is flexibility to combine your internship with a Master’s thesis. In that case, the thesis topic may be related, but will be managed separately from your internship work.
