About Us

Kraket is the study association for Econometrics and Operational Research at the VU. Kraket was founded on 14 July 1972 and the name Kraket stands for 'Critical Actuaries and Econometricians'. The vast majority of econometrics students are members of the association and there is every reason to do so. In our room (HG-8A-30) you can buy books, ask questions, work or just come by. On Monday we are open between 12.30 am and 5 pm. Tuesday until Friday we are open between 10 am and 5 pm.

Kraket unites students and business through case days, in-house days and the annual LED (National Econometristers Day), where members can get in touch with companies and orient themselves on the labor market.

Furthermore, a study trip abroad is organized once every two years. In 2023 a group of students traveled to Helsinki and Talinn, where they visited several companies, a university and the Dutch embassy and of course explore the city. Previous study trips, among others, went to Berlin, Marrakesh, Lisbon, Madrid, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Tokyo, New York and Atlanta, Hong Kong and Brazil.

The printing press is also running at full speed at Kraket. Every quater, an edition of the Ecotribune will be published. In this informal newspaper, extensive reports of the organized activities are presented, as well as all the news on the ins and outs of Kraket. In addition, we have the more formal online SECTOR. The redaction of the SECTOR makes sure that every monday an article is being published. You can find articles about companies, interviews, columns as well as articles from guest writers and professors.

Of course, Kraket also organizes relaxing activities. Think of the Sinterklaas celebration, lasergaming and a number of drinks and parties, but Kraket is also very sporty. Sports like football, pool, skating and squash are regularly discussed. At the end of the year the board organizes a weekend trip to a location unknown to the members. During that weekend, the Kraketweekend, you get to know people from other academic years in a relaxing way.
